Grades K-4 (Lower School)
Physical education is taught five days a week by our P.E. coaches.
In the K-2 physical education program, we focus on providing a safe environment in which all students can learn the values of kindness, mutual respect, self-reliance, perseverance, honesty, cooperation, and sportsmanship. Creative health-related fitness games teach the importance of living a healthy active lifestyle, and promote the physical, social, and emotional well-being of each student.
In our 3rd and 4th grade physical education program, students learn how a sport or game is played by participating in a large variety of lead-up games that are skill-focused to prepare them for actual game play in a sport. The students cooperate, compete, succeed, lead, and work on sportsmanship in an environment that is geared for success.
Grades 5–8 (Lower/Middle School)
Although Buckley Middle School officially starts in sixth grade, students begin competitive athletics in fifth grade. For grades 5–8, the athletics program strives to meet the needs of athletes at all skill levels. Our emphasis on fitness and wellness creates a competitive environment for cooperation, positive self-esteem, and sportsmanship skills. Team participation promotes lifelong experimentation, play and curiosity. All our student-athletes are trained and prepare for the next level of athletics.
Practices are conducted during class time, while games take place after school hours in the San Fernando Valley Private School (SFVPSL) or Delphic Leagues.
Grades 9-12 (Upper School)
Our Upper School students are challenged to take their physical education to a higher level. Students are invited to try out for any of our interscholastic athletic teams or to continue physical education classes. Upper School runs Flex PE for students who choose not to participate in an athletics team. Flex PE consists of personal fitness training and group exercise classes. We encourage all Upper School students to find the activity that is right for them whether it’s excelling on a sports team or continuing with a lifetime fitness program.
